Because it's the best martial arts deal in town. Period.
We are not-for-profit. So the cost to students is minimal.
Instructors don't get paid. We do it to give back to the sport and promote the art.
We are a USJA Chartered Club since 1970.
Best collection of high ranking instructors in the area with decades of experience.
Students get promoted on USJA ranking system.
It is a YMCA program club. So Y members are free. That's right... free!
Non-YMCA members can train for as little as $12 a month!
The classes will combine Judo and Jujitsu principles with an emphasis on fitness. Students are ages 6 and up. Students will learn Judo throws, hold downs, joint locks, chokes, and grappling techniques. They will build confidence, coordination and fitness. Students should wear a Judo Gi or workout clothing with long sleeves and pants. Be prepared for a good workout, lots to learn, and having fun!.
You are welcome to any of our Judo practices at the Harrisburg YMCA on Tuesday and Saturdays. Thursdays practice is MMA submission/grappling (no striking). The first visit is free but afterwards the Y will need you to join or buy a per-visit program card ($12/Punch Card for 4 classes). The program card is a cost effective way to try-it-out without a commitment. There is no charge for the Judo program to current Y members.
Since the Judo program is a year-round activity, there is no registration required. Just come to one of the classes. Bring your Judo Gi uniform if you have one or workout clothes are fine. The students are a wide mix of ages and skill level. Some participate in competition, some don't.
The club itself doesn't charge a fee. Since we are a non-profit organization, none of the instructors get paid and students get promoted on merit and time in grade. To receive accredited promotions you will need to join the USJA (usja-judo.org).
Attendance is entirely up to the student and no one is pressured to participate on any kind of schedule. The only expectations are when students do attend, they keep focused on the class, do their best, and follow the dojo rules and etiquette.
Hope to see you there!
